Day 15: Hearing God
SHHHHH!
READ- 1 Kings 19:11-13
REFLECT- Life can be a never-ending cacophony of thunderous outside noise fighting for our attention. It can be stressful and even overwhelming sometimes, so much so that we just want to cover our ears and scream, “BE QUIET!” We cry out, “God where are you?! Talk to me! Say something!” fully expecting a booming voice to rage down from the mountain and roar over all of the nonsense but that’s not always the way it goes. God came to the prophet Elijah, not in the powerful wind, not in a ground shattering earthquake, not in a raging fire, but in a whisper. “How can that be?” you may ask. “Isn’t God the most powerful being in the universe? Doesn’t his voice drown out all others?” The answer is yes and no. “Yes” his voice can/will drown out all others, but “no” he doesn’t have to raise his voice to do so. Don’t believe me? What’s the loudest whispered phrase that you will ever hear? The phrase “I love you” whispered in your ear for the first time, by someone you love, is one of the loudest, earth rattling things that reverberates in your head for days, months, or even years. The love that you feel in that moment is nothing compared to the eternal love that the King of kings has for you! He loved you first and he loves you most.
RESPOND- How can you quiet yourself (your life) this week? What do you need to tune out or turn off so that your outside noise level drops low enough to hear God whisper that he loves you?
