Making Separation
Read: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10
In the middle of a long list of names upon difficult to pronounce names, we see a break from the pattern as Jabez is introduced. Although his story starts out with pain, he doesn’t allow himself to just muddle through his situation and reputation. Jabez doesn’t try to fix the issue himself or find ways to overcome his lot in life on his own efforts. Instead, this quick story contains a simple prayer. As we take our challenges to God, we don’t even have to identify them but just pray to exchange what we are experiencing for what God can bring about. When we submit to His blessing, His increase, His hand and His guidance, they might not look like what we have envisioned but we can be confident that it will be good. The result of this simple prayer separated Jabez from the list of people he would have naturally fallen into because as he prayed, “God granted his request.” Take a moment today to exchange your concerns, needs and wants and pray this simple prayer.
Pray - “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.”
