Day 10: Engaging Prayer

JUST CALL - by Byron Fisk

My son who lives in another city called the other day. It was great to hear from him. In the course of the conversation, he told his mother and I some things that he encountered that his mother would rather not know about. I wasn’t excited about his troubles either, but I was grateful that he was willing to talk about them, and that I had the opportunity to respond and give some advice.

Throughout the day I pray by just talking to God: “God should I do this? What is the right way for me to respond here? That makes me mad God. I know I shouldn’t have done that, sorry God.” God doesn’t mind the silly discussion I have with him throughout the day, even when my prayers are short, and self-absorbed. There is much I do that I imagine he isn’t pleased with, but he’d prefer I talk to him about it than keep it to myself.  He just wants to hear from me and wants me to listen when he speaks back.

Don’t be afraid to be honest with God, and don’t think he isn’t listening. He hears you, and he cares about you.

“But God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.” Psalm 66:19 NIV
