Day 13: Hearing God
Being Still
READ- Psalm 46:10; Psalm 37:7
REFLECT- I grew up believing that no one is for me but me. Everyone will let me down. I have to be the one who does anything for me or it just won’t happen. When I became a follower of Jesus, I still kept trying to get what this life might have for me. Psalm 46:10 quickly became my favorite verse and I realized that it isn’t by my own strength I can do anything. I am who I am and where I am simply because God is God. But I still forget to stop and remember that. It’s so easy to get caught up in the craziness of this life and in doing God’s work that I don’t make a point of just being in His presence. God is God. He is the Creator of all things. He is able to do anything and everything. The Alpha and the Omega. So, why do I worry? Why do I continue to try to do everything myself? Even if it all seems out of control, God isn’t. No matter what happens, He knew what was coming and He knows what is coming. He tells us to “be still,” to “wait patiently.” Some translations say to “stop striving.” It doesn’t mean to not put in any effort. Just stop trying to do it all on your own strength. God wants to walk this path with you and His strength is sufficient.
RESPOND- What do you need to give to God? What are you still trying to control? Ask God to be your strength and relinquish control to Him. This might be a daily or even hourly thing, but keep at it. During your prayer time each day, make a point of just being still. You can miss His voice if you talk too much. It might feel awkward, but persist. You will not be disappointed.

Here's a song I enjoy that conveys this message quite well.
