Day 3: Hearing God
Revelation from Heaven
READ - Matthew 16:13-16
REFLECT - From the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, people struggled to understand who Jesus is. Today, there is still a lot of confusion about who Jesus is, and what it means to be a follower of Him. Some say he was a prophet and a good teacher, and others say he was just a man who through time, legend grew about Him being the son of God and rising from the dead. But just as the Father in heaven revealed to Peter that Jesus was the son of the living God, so the Holy Spirit reveals to us through the Scriptures who Jesus is, and what it means to be a follower of Him.
There are many today who claim Jesus is Lord, but then do things in His name that contradict what He did, and what He called his followers to do. Jesus said not all who call Him Lord will enter His eternal presence, but only those who do the will of His Father (Mathew 7:21-23). It seems they have not let the Scriptures reveal to them who Jesus is, and what His followers' mission is.
RESPOND - Who do you say Jesus is? He is asking everyone to answer this question, and then receive His Spirit and be transformed to do the Father’s will. Take some time today to read who Jesus said He was, and what His followers were called to do. Some suggested readings to select from: Mathew chapter 5-7, Luke 4:16-21, Mathew 28:19-20, Galatians 5:13-26, Philipians 2:1-13, James 1:19-27 (or all of James).
